Laser Liposuction
The cosmetic surgery performed to remove or decrease fat deposits from different body parts is called Liposuction. The neck, arms, abdomen, buttocks, thighs and the part under the chin are areas which usually undergo this procedure.
While laser liposuction Surgery is helpful in reducing body weight and making you look better by removing excess fat, it must be remembered that it cannot cure obesity. Liposuction is also not effective against cardiovascular diseases or in improving your health. It is indeed a cosmetic surgery only. Liposuction surgery is useful to remove pockets of fat for those who do not respond to either diet or exercise. People with normal weight, who have firm, elastic skin with concentration of fat in certain body parts, are the ones who show effective results.
Depending on the amount of fat being removed, laser liposuction is performed on a person using either local or general anesthesia. A small cut is made and a narrow tube is inserted in the area from where fat needs to be removed. Various techniques are used to melt the fat pockets. Ultrasound device, fluid injection, super wet, tumescent etc. are some of the techniques that help dissolve the fat pockets. Next, the fat from the fat pockets is vacuumed out using either a large syringe or a suction pump. To replace the large amounts of fluids that a person loses as a result of the fat loss, the person is given intravenous fluids to his veins. Fluids are supplied both during and also after the surgery. The whole procedure usually takes up to two hours. However, the total time required for the entire surgery depends on the number of areas that receive treatment.
Every surgery carries some or the other type of risk. If liposuction is carried out simultaneously on many different body parts and if all these body part are large in size, then the risks of liposuction increases considerably. Some complications that can occur are an injury to skin or tissues because of heat from ultra sonic devices, complications because of the injection of anesthetic fluid or collection of large quantity of fluid getting accumulated in the body. Sometimes, excessive loss of body fluids can also lead to shock. Infections might also occur in the fatty tissues and these are difficult to heal. Drug reactions and formation of blood clots or fat clots are also serious complications. Blood clots that migrate to the lungs might also cause death.
After liposuction, some post surgical care needs to be taken in order to get back to normalcy faster. First and foremost is to remember that strenuous activity must be avoided for about one month after the liposuction surgery and the body must be allowed to heal. It is advisable to put on the pressure garment for several weeks after surgery. Unusual symptoms must be reported to the doctor and the patient must rest for the prescribed time (as told by the surgeon), post surgery.
In spite of liposuction being a very convenient option, it needs to be remembered that the best body is sculpted only by having a healthy low fat diet, massages, exercise etc.
