Clinic Or Hospital – Where To Get Your Liposuction Performed?

Liposuction surgeries are largely performed in surgical centers, hospitals or doctor’s offices. But the doctor’s office has some definite benefits over a hospital liposuction.

Growing numbers of liposuction surgeons are now offering complete in-house liposuction related facilities. Patients feel much better at these liposuction clinics compared to the clinical hospital atmosphere on account of the more familiar and friendlier atmosphere of clinics because of its moderate size and staff. Also, hospitals will always treat emergency health issues prior to cosmetic procedures whereas in case of a clinic, you will be there first priority. Hospitals are costlier and expose the patient to all kinds of infections and bacteria on account of their existing patients.

Liposuction clinics usually use local anesthesia as compared to general anesthesia being usually preferred in hospitals. Statistics suggest that usage of local anesthesia is always safer than general anesthesia. Also since these clinics specialize in only one procedure, the chances of antibiotic-resistant bacteria being prevalent are much lesser than hospitals.

Another important aspect while deciding between hospitals and liposuction clinics is the fact that even if one uses tumescent anesthesia, the in-patient system and rules, especially of hospitals might prove to be a downer over here. Patients might not be allowed to move around as much as they would like to. Early walking and mobility helps in preventing blood clot formation. This problem may lead to grave consequences in cases where tumescent anesthesia is not used. In case of clinics, even if mobility is allowed, the doctor might not have complete knowledge about tumescent anesthesia. This can be attributed to the shocking revelation that mostly these doctors are not specialized surgeons but just have attended some short-term liposuction courses.

But, specialized liposuction clinics have certain limitations. They have a smaller staff and may not be equipped for handling rare procedure-related complications. Also the equipment might be limited in number, thereby risking your life in situations when they fail to perform. Hospital doctors would always be more competent as they mostly be board certified and have trained staff for helping them. Hospitals are also more equipped to handle complications like allergic reactions or strokes.

It is up to you to research and decide which setting shall be most suitable for getting your liposuction performed. Consider the pre and post surgery period requirements as well while making this decision, along with the factors of doctor’s competence and your safety and comfort.
