Autologous Fat Transfer (Microlipoinjection)

Autologous fat transfer, also called Microlipoinjection, is a procedure wherein the fat from other parts of one’s own body is used to plump up sunken areas of one’s face or to restore attractive shape to your cheeks, chin and to add volume where necessary. “Autologous” word refers to using one’s own tissues for the procedure.

This method is also known as facial fat sculpting and is preferred by those who are wary of getting into any form of facial plastic surgery.

How Autologous Fat Transfer Works?

Autologous fat transfer can add pretty contours to your chin, cheeks and under eye area by facial fat injections. The process takes place in three steps. The first step is liposuction, a cosmetic procedure of removing fat from body. The first step involves removing excess fat from parts of the body such as abdomen, thighs, jowls, etc from the body through a gentle liposuction surgery.

The second step involves cleansing and separating fat cells. These separated fat cells are then injected into the targeted areas of the face such as cheeks, lips etc. This final step is known as fat cell transplantation.

Candidates for Autologous Fat Transfer

Autologous fat transfer can remove “wear and tear” effects from the facial skin. These effects can result from aging. Autologous fat transfer works well in eliminating aspects such as smile lines, wrinkles and furrows, frowning lines, hollows (such as those under the cheekbones), etc. This procedure can also help in treating scars and lips that have lost significant volume due to several reasons.

Risks and Benefits

There are several benefits of facial fat sculpting. It is a boon for the aged and is quite versatile a process. The benefit of this procedure lasts for a long time as compared to other cosmetic injectables. Perhaps the best part of this procedure is that it is safe and natural. It doesn’t make use of synthetic product and there are virtually no chances of allergic reactions since the fat transplantation is from one’s own body.

Some of the risks associated with this procedure are swelling and soreness.

One should weigh the pros and cons of this procedure before going in with it. Talk to your doctor, if you have any doubts about the whole procedure. Once done, follow your doctor’s advice for an early recovery.
