Tummy Tuck Surgery
Tummy Tuck Surgery – For Tightening the Flabby Skin around Your Tummy
Abdominoplasty or tummy tuck is a surgical treatment that is done around the abdominal area for reducing loose and flabby skin. This is accomplished by strengthening abdominal walls and tightening of muscles of the stomach. The purpose of this treatment is not weight loss but removing fat and tightening of skin which is otherwise difficult to achieve by diet and exercise.
Though in most cases general anesthesia is used in the treatment, sedative can also be made use of in some cases. For performing this surgery, a couple of incisions are made into the lower part of the body and by separating the skin from the abdominal wall, the muscles are pulled together and tightened into a new position with the help of stitches.
The traditional version of tummy tuck surgery leaves a large scar post surgery which is the reason why many people hesitate to go through this treatment and hence prefer undergoing endoscopic abdominoplasty. In the latter case, the surgeon uses a small camera (endoscope) to make small incisions into the skin. Though endoscopic abdominoplasty is less invasive as compared to traditional abdominoplasty, it suffers from the limitation of being ineffective for tightening the loose skin.
Tummy tuck surgery can result in numbness, swelling, discomfort and pain which can be taken care of with proper medication and mild exercise. The possibility of catching infection and adverse reaction cannot be ruled out. Some complications that may arise after this surgical treatment are excessive bleeding, scaring, hematoma, skin death, rupturing of stitches, etc. Thus, one should weigh the pros and cons of this surgery wisely before opting for it.
A candidate needs to be 18 years of age or more to be allowed a tummy tuck surgery. It has been observed that people who do not smoke have lesser chances of getting into the complications of the surgery. One of the most common categories of people who go through the tummy tuck surgery is women after pregnancy. They generally face the problem of loose skin post child birth.
It is important to know about candidates who are not eligible for abdominoplasty. Women who are planning for a child should wait for the surgery to happen because during child birth the tightened muscles can get separated. If you are one amongst those who are planning to shed a lot of pounds, tummy tuck is not for you.
